A
larger steam chest used in building ships can be seen in this Douglas
West photograph from Whitstable Museum.
The
steam chest is the long box to the left of the photo. The steam
came from the small hut behind, which housed the shipyard’s
steam engine.
The
team fits the boiling-hot sheer strake into place quickly and with
great confidence.
