The
frames in a wooden boat have a complex form. They are cut from oak
planks carefully chosen such that the wood grain follows the shape
of the frame as closely as possible to maximise its strength. The
hull is further strengthened by using oak knees made from the natural
angles between branches, known as crooks. This curved oak for Favourite’s
frames was delivered from a Yorkshire timber yard to Butler &
Co’s boatyard in Perry Wood near Faversham.
